PERSONAL

Hello! My name is Madison Bryan, some call me Maddie.

I grew up in Maryland with my wonderful family, my mom, dad, and four brothers. I am many things to many people a daughter, a sister and a friend.  Most importantly I am me unlike anyone else, I am an artist.

I am in my senior year studying at Savannah College of Art and Design, majoring in painting. I have a passion for the arts which comes from my belief that it helps to bring the imagination to life and to strengthen and stretch ones abilities. Art helps me create my own norms and to think beyond the tangible.

Going through life as a teenager and young adult I struggled with my identity. As I am not of mixed race but yet I don’t fit the “typical” look of what some would define as “a black girl”. I was often called everything but black so I found myself trying to fit this image that everyone else created for me.

My identity was not the only thing I struggled with, as I also had trouble with my mental health which really had a negative impact on my day to day life.

Although these were difficult battles, they only added to my growth and helped me to become the beautiful adult and unwavering artist that I am today.

Throughout the many difficult experiences I had while growing up, one thing was always constant, I had the wonderful support of my family, God, and art!

Ever since I was able to pick up a pencil and put my imagination down on paper, art has always been a passion and played a major role in my life.

From an early age I was always comfortable expressing myself in front of friends and family and I found that modeling was one of my favorite ways to make my imagination a reality.

However, once I found that my passions could help others overcome their struggles as well, I knew that it was more than just art. It was now the importance of representation, individuality, having a voice, and my purpose.

Helping me realize it was never my imagination but reality all along.

My hope is to inspire others to overcome their struggles and doubts - to achieve their goals.

I hope through my unique image, embracing and loving my differences, and the art that I create, I can encourage people to aspire to be themselves even more and to create their own image - not one made by others.

And most importantly, I hope people see me and know that they are never alone.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope to make your imagination the reality it truly is as well.
